Carmen in here. You can have tomatoes that look like this, or you can have tomatoes that look like this.
I’m going to give you three simple ways to not have split tomatoes:
Use water the right way. You can’t overwater and you can’t underwater. It’s got to be consistent water. Water your plants hard at least once a week, let them dry out and then water them again. You want to water deep. You want to force those roots to go down. You don’t want them all on top of the ground. Otherwise you’d be out there watering every day.
Amend the soil with good compost wherever you’re planting your tomatoes. I’m talking put a couple gallons.
Don’t over fertilize. When you over fertilize you get all of these tall plants and you don’t get any fruit. Fertilize maybe once every two to four weeks.
