Farming is one of the most essential and yet dangerous occupations in America. Among the many hazards farmers face, grain bin entrapments are some of the most terrifying and potentially deadly. In a matter of seconds, a person can become trapped in flowing grain, with little chance of escape without the proper equipment and training. Recognizing the critical need for resources and education, Nationwide® launched the Grain Bin Safety advocacy campaign to raise awareness and provide real-life solutions. Since its inception, the program has awarded grain rescue tubes and hands-on training to over 390 fire departments across rural America.

These life-saving tools and training sessions equip first responders with the knowledge and equipment they need to perform successful grain bin rescues. And these efforts are paying off. At least 13 lives have been saved as a direct result of the program’s impact. Behind every number is a real person—a farmer, a father, a friend—who made it home thanks to the commitment and preparedness of their local emergency services.

The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Many rural fire departments operate on tight budgets and with limited access to specialized training. Grain rescue tubes are not standard equipment and can be cost-prohibitive for small communities. Nationwide’s program helps fill that critical gap by providing not only the rescue tubes but also expert-led training, ensuring that responders are fully equipped to act when every second counts.

This year, the need remains urgent. Grain bin accidents continue to happen, often with tragic consequences. But you can be part of the solution. By nominating your local fire department for this program, you can help bring vital resources and potentially life-saving training to your community.

Nominations are open now through April 30. The process is simple: visit the link in our bio and complete the nomination form. Whether you’re a farmer, a firefighter, or simply someone who cares about rural safety, your nomination can make a real difference.

Imagine the peace of mind knowing that your local first responders have the tools they need to respond to a grain entrapment emergency. Imagine knowing that because of your action, a life might one day be saved.

In addition to supporting local fire departments, this initiative builds stronger, safer agricultural communities. It raises awareness, promotes best practices, and fosters a culture of preparedness that benefits everyone. The program has already made a measurable impact, and with your help, that impact can grow.

Nationwide, in partnership with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) and other sponsors, is proud to lead this charge. But they can’t do it alone. It takes community engagement, awareness, and action to ensure that more departments have access to these critical life-saving tools.

Let’s help make that number grow. Let’s ensure that no farmer is left without hope in a time of crisis. Nominate your local fire department today, and be a part of something that truly saves lives.
