What I Carry With Me Every Day!

Life on the farm is more than just early mornings and long hours—it’s about being prepared. Every day brings new surprises, so I’ve learned to carry a few essentials that help me stay ready for whatever comes my way. Whether I’m in the tractor cab for hours during planting season or running around the barnyard tending to animals, these everyday items are with me 24/7.
1. My Phone
Let’s be honest—my phone is my lifeline. From tracking weather patterns and field data to staying in touch with the team and updating my followers on social media, it’s my number one tool. Plus, it doubles as my camera, GPS, and playlist hub when I’m rolling through endless rows in the tractor.
2. A Pocket Knife
A good knife is non-negotiable. I use it for everything—cutting twine, fixing equipment, slicing open feed bags, and even lunch prep in a pinch. I don’t feel dressed without it. Mine has been with me through thick and thin, and I never step into the field without slipping it into my jeans pocket.
3. Gloves
Farming is tough on your hands, and a solid pair of gloves makes all the difference. I keep a pair of leather work gloves in my truck and another in the tractor cab. They’ve saved my skin more times than I can count—literally. From working with tools to moving fencing, gloves are a must.
4. Water Bottle
Hydration is key when you’re outside from sunup to sundown. I carry a sturdy, insulated water bottle that keeps my drinks cold even on the hottest days. Sometimes I’ll throw in some electrolyte tablets if it’s especially hot or I’ve been working extra hard.
5. Notebook and Pen
Old-school, I know—but there’s something about writing things down that just works for me. Whether I’m tracking crop yields, noting maintenance issues, or scribbling ideas for future content, my little notebook is always in my cab or my coat pocket.
6. Flashlight or Headlamp
You never know when a job will run long or when you’ll need to check something after dark. A small flashlight—or better yet, a headlamp—makes those late-night checks or repairs a lot easier. It’s especially handy during harvest season when the days blur into nights.
7. Snacks
You can’t run on fumes. I stash protein bars, jerky, and a few pieces of fruit in my backpack or the tractor cab. Long days in the field don’t always allow for full meals, and those snacks keep me going when lunch gets skipped or delayed.
8. Multi-tool
Between fixing hoses, adjusting equipment, or making quick repairs, a multi-tool with pliers, screwdrivers, and a wrench is a life-saver. It’s basically a mini toolbox in my pocket—and on the farm, that’s gold.
9. Hat and Sunglasses
Sun protection is serious business out here. A good ball cap or wide-brimmed hat, plus a solid pair of polarized sunglasses, keeps the sun out of my eyes and helps me stay focused during long days outside.
Final Thoughts
Every farmer has their own version of an everyday carry kit. These are the tools that keep me productive, safe, and sane. They’re simple, but when you put them all together, they make my days run smoother and keep me ready for anything the farm throws my way.
So the next time you see me in my tractor cab or walking the fields, just know—I’ve got all my essentials right there with me. Ready for work. Ready for life.
