Hey, Farmer Dean here, and a lot of people have been asking, how often do I water? And I always tell them, whenever it’s needed. But let’s be realistic about it. There’s two things about watering you should know:
Water really heavy and not often, okay? Because what you’re trying to do is you’re trying to get those roots to go down. If you water plants every day, then the roots stay at the top. And that’s not what you want. You want them to go down so they get all the moisture and the weather doesn’t affect them so much.
To give you an idea, I’m going to show you my corn that I watered three days ago and you can still see. I watered this corn three days ago and you can still see the moisture that’s in them, okay? So I won’t need to water them for a while.
But on the same hand, if you look at my other plants right here, they all need to be watered. They’re starting to wilt just a little bit. That’s when I can tell whether they need to be heavy watered. So I’m going to turn this water on and I’ll leave it on for probably about three hours to make sure that everything’s wet.
