Farmer Dean here, and if you want to grow really big and nice garlic like this, I’m going to give you three ways to do it. My garlic’s already poking its head out. It’s early spring. We’re going to put some Epsom salts on there.
And what’s the Epsom salts do? It creates the roots. You’ll get bigger bulbs by getting bigger roots.
Number two, a really good plant food. I use Job’s, but you can use anything. If you have, I like Job’s because it’s all organic. You’ll notice I got a few skips, and the reason is because I got it planted late. Last year, off this bed, I got 41 and a third pounds.
And the last thing you need is good microorganisms. So this is EM1, and I’m going to put about three ounces in there. And the reason why you want microorganisms in there is because the raised bed, there’s not a lot in there. So every year, put this in there. You’ll notice I got a new can. I ran over my other one with my tractor this winter. I wasn’t too smart, was I?
So if you really want big garlic, you have to do these three simple things:
Fertilize.
Epsom salts.
Microorganisms, so that it picks up all of the nutrients that are in the ground.
